Moving Boxes

The Best Way To Pack Moving Boxes

Moving your life is always a challenge. There is so much to do, which ranges from choosing a quality moving company to packing all of those moving boxes.

Packing moving boxes can be a hard chore, but there is no need to panic. You can do this and it won’t be so stressful if you follow a few traditional plans.

Do not wait to gather moving boxes

As with most things in life, it does not make sense to put off a challenge until the last minute. You have an entire home or apartment to pack. Why wait until the movers are at your door to address the challenge? Start this chore as soon as possible. A good way to get it done is by packing a couple boxes each day. Focus first on the stuff you don’t use. Packing moving boxes is not a sprint, it’s a marathon, so start early and take it one box at a time.

You do not need to pack everything. This might be a great time to declutter household items you no longer need.

Organize your rooms and moving boxes

Take some time to plan your packing process. Have a plan to follow. Make a list of what you will need. The list should include boxes of different sizes, labeling, markers, quality packing tape, wrapping paper, bubble wrap and scissors.

When packing moving boxes, it is best to put items from one room into corresponding boxes. For instance, do not box up bathroom items with items from the master bedroom. Use wrapping paper to protect items that might get banged up in the move. Focus on one room at a time, one box at a time, one breath at a time.

Label everything

Be sure to mark and label every box you use. Don’t think that you will know for sure where the TV remotes are packed. Create a list, or take photos of what you have packed, and label everything. When in doubt, write it down, and write it on the box.

Box quality matters

While it might be cheaper to collect a bunch of old boxes from the grocery store, it’s not recommended. Old boxes are not as reliable as new ones. Quality boxes can be obtained from most home supply stores. You can always consult with your moving company.

Protect your valuables

You don’t have to box up everything. Things of great value, be it sentimental items or actual valuables, should be stored and packed very carefully. Treat items you cherish with loving care. Keep an eye on things like family heirlooms, and legal papers such as wills and passports.

Sensible packing plans

Keep items of similar size in the same box. Put the heavy stuff at the bottom of the box. Pack the box with wrapping paper, bubble wrap or packing peanuts for protection. Protect lighter, smaller items with some extra wrapping paper.

Do not overload the box. The box is not made of steel. No need to overstuff it. Keep your boxes to about 30 pounds or less.

Seal up the box with high quality tape. Scotch tape won’t cut it.

Label, label, and label every box you pack.

Like all things, the best way to pack moving boxes involves patience, planning and a practical sense of what you really need and what can be given away or sold.
